Hotel Holiday, designed by architect Ivan Štraus, opened in 1983 to host guests for the 1984 Winter Olympics. During the Bosnian War, it served as a shelter for international journalists, offering them a strategic base to cover the Siege of Sarajevo. Despite being targeted, it remained operational. Originally called the Holiday Inn, the hotel was known for its distinctive yellow facade and geometric design. It’s now operated by the Hotel Europe Group, remaining a key landmark and event venue in Sarajevo, known for its cultural and historical significance.
Hotel Holiday has hosted numerous events and conferences, symbolizing resilience and the city’s historical narrative. It’s also featured in several documentaries and films about the war, highlighting Sarajevo’s endurance.
