From Materials Science to Regenerative Medicine: The Career Journey of a Scientist and Leader in Higher Education

This public lecture by Prof. Dr. Pamela Habibović, Rector of Maastricht University, follows her inspiring professional journey – from her early research beginnings to her current leadership role at one of Europe’s most innovative universities.
Prof. Habibović will present her scientific contributions in the fields of synthetic bone graft substitutes, bio-organics, nanomaterials for regenerative therapies and diagnostics, as well as high-throughput methods for biomaterials research.
She will also introduce Maastricht University as a forward-thinking, student-centered institution known for its interdisciplinary culture, international opportunities, and strong commitment to research-led education.
The goal of the lecture is to provide insight into how scientific innovation, leadership, and societal engagement shape modern education and research systems.
About Pamela Habibović
Prof. Dr. Pamela Habibović is the Rector of Maastricht University and a professor of inorganic biomaterials. Her research focuses on synthetic bone graft substitutes, bio-organic materials, and nanomaterials for regenerative medicine. She is a co-founder of the MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine and has received numerous prestigious research grants and international awards for her contributions to biomaterials and biomedical engineering.
