
Dr. Džemila Šero 🇳🇱
Dr. Džemila Šero is a researcher and assistant professor in the field of biometrics and computer vision at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. Her work bridges technology, art, and forensics, with a particular focus on heritage biometrics — using biometric analysis to study and authenticate artworks and sculptures.
She earned her PhD in Engineering Science from KU Leuven, Belgium, where she worked on facial reconstruction and recognition from DNA-based predictive traits. Before joining the University of Twente, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam and collaborated with the Rijksmuseum.In 2025, she received the L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” Award for her pioneering research in applying biometric technologies to cultural heritage. Originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Šero actively supports scientific collaboration between researchers in the region and abroad.”
