Dr. Aida Branković is a researcher and engineer at the forefront of biomedical innovation. Prior to joining the University of Sarajevo, she was a Senior Scientist and Project Lead for the Responsible Innovation Future Science Platform at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. She is also an Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, Australia.

She leads the development of innovative, safe, ethical, and trustworthy clinical decision-support tools and AI-based medical devices. Aida is a recipient of the Queensland Research Fellowship and multiple prestigious awards, including the WiT Emerging Tech Star 2025 Award, the Nature Springer Outstanding Editor Award 2025, and the Best Paper Award from the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) at the MedInfo 2023 conference.

Aida was a finalist for the Global Australian Global Talent Award 2022 in recognition of her contribution to Australia’s reputation as a global leader in medical innovation. She is the inventor of two U.S. patents licensed to an industry partner and has served as the ML lead for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) solutions that have attracted the attention of global industry partners. She is the author of more than 30 publications in leading conferences and journals.

Aida led the development of the first guidelines for evaluating explainable AI in clinical decision-support tools, which are registered with the EQUATOR Network. Aida is a member of the editorial boards of Nature Scientific Reports and BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making. She also serves on the Program Committee of the Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence.
