Dr. Ida Fazlić obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Sarajevo in 2017. During her studies, she worked as an intern at the Historical Museum, National Museum, and National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she was trained as a paintings conservator.

Dr. Fazlić earned her Master’s degree in Conservation Science and Technology for Cultural Heritage from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in 2020. Her master’s thesis investigated the oxidation reactions of fatty acids in drying oils using a multi-analytical approach combining NMR, GC-MS, ESI-QTOF-MS, and FTIR spectroscopy. As part of her master studies, she completed an internship at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, where she conducted research on wall paintings.

In 2021, Ida pursued a PhD in Analytical, Theoretical and Physical Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), within the InnovaXN doctoral programme, in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and Akzonobel (paint and coating industry). Her research focused on the interactions between lead-based driers and linseed oil binder in model and historical paintings, some of which include The Night Watch, The Last Supper, and the Mona Lisa. Her research primarily employed synchrotron radiation-based XRPD and XRF, combined with laboratory-based FTIR spectroscopy.

During her PhD, Ida worked part-time on technical research at the Department of Conservation and Science at the Rijksmuseum. After her PhD, she continues her research at the Rijksmuseum, where she investigates cultural heritage materials through scientific and technical analyses. She closely collaborates with conservators and researchers, contributes to preventive conservation, supports the work of conservation studios and manages labs.
