
Maja Halilovic
Maja Halilović was born in 1985 in Tuzla. She graduated from the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Product Design. In the last six years, she specialised in the field of biodesign and worked on innovative research of biomaterials. In her career, she has five inventions that are applicable in the design industry.
She exhibited in London, Ljubljana, Brno, Cologne, Belgrade, Copenhagen and several other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2018, she exhibited at the International Fair of furniture and interiors Imm Cologne in Cologne as part of the Pure Talents platform for presentation of young designers.
In the same year, two of her pieces were shortlisted for the nomination for best design at to the International Student Biennial 2018. In 2019, she exhibited pieces within the completely new branch of design – biodesign, called “IMM64BS”, in Belgrade as part of the Young Balkan Designers platform and the Mikser Festival. She is currently teaching her research paper on biodesign.
She gave lectures twice in Belgrade/as part of the Belgrade Film Art Manifesto zones and in KC Baraka; Sarajevo/in the premises of the Association of Architects of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Goethe Institute.
She signed a contract with the city of Novi Sad, where she, as part of the European Capitals of Culture for 2022, teaches biodesign at the Bogdan Å uput School of Design, and as part of the program leads art trips and conferences.
She cooperates with companies and individuals all over Europe to develop their own brand with ecological principles. She also helps them turn waste into a usable product. She invented several types of biomaterials: bacteriological cellulose as a substitute for textiles where the material finds its application in the packaging industry; biomaterial from coffee waste; process of cardboard and paper recycling, biofoam, biopaste for 3D printers… She is in the process of studying other biological materials and educating young people how to invent their own biomaterials.
